The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has chosen not to disclose the identities of tourists who lost their lives in Queen Elizabeth National Park during an attack on Tuesday.
The event took place at Nyamunuka along Katwe Road and involved two tourists, accompanied by their guide.
In a statement released on Tuesday, UWA expressed its deep regret regarding the tragic incident. Unknown assailants attacked all three individuals that evening, resulting in their deaths, and also setting their vehicle on fire.
However, the Authority has decided to keep the names of the deceased private.
The victims include a Ugandan citizen, a UK national, and a South African citizen. They were traveling with Gorilla and Wildlife Safaris, a local tour company.
In response to this event, UWA has informed the Uganda Police Force and other security agencies. These agencies are actively working to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the incident and to identify those responsible.
UWA extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, expressing solidarity with them during this challenging time. The safety and security of tourists visiting protected areas are of paramount importance. UWA urges the public to be patient and to allow the investigative process to proceed without spreading unverified information. Cooperation from the public is essential to bring those responsible to justice. All national parks remain open to visitors, and UWA continues to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the safety of all individuals visiting these protected areas.
