Uganda and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Forge Partnership

Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, expressed appreciation for the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ readiness to collaborate with the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in addressing security challenges in their respective nations. Lt Gen Okiding made these remarks during a meeting with the Chief of Staff-Defence Intelligence of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.

The meeting served as an opportunity for both parties to discuss potential areas of cooperation and exchange information on shared security concerns. Maj Gen Moyo, representing the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, highlighted the significance of such engagements in fostering mutual understanding and addressing contemporary threats like terrorism.




The delegation from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is currently on a three-day visit to Uganda, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and explore avenues for collaboration in defense and security matters. Such visits, as emphasized by Maj Gen Moyo, are crucial for enhancing the capabilities of both Defence Forces and contributing to the overall security landscape of their respective countries.




In attendance at the meeting was Brigadier General Abdul Rugumayo, the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security of the UPDF. His presence underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation and coordination in addressing regional security challenges.




The discussions between the Uganda and Zimbabwe Defence Forces reflect a broader commitment to enhancing security cooperation among African nations. By sharing expertise, resources, and intelligence, both countries can effectively confront emerging threats and safeguard the stability and prosperity of their citizens.
