Shock Announcement: We Are Going to Auction Anita Among’s Shs3.4bn Rolls-Royce, Says Gen Muhoozi

Kampala — Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that the government plans to auction a luxury Rolls-Royce reportedly linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, in what is being described as part of an ongoing anti-corruption and asset recovery drive.

The vehicle, valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion, was among high-end assets recently seized by security agencies during coordinated operations involving the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

According to Gen. Muhoozi, the decision to dispose of the vehicle through auction is intended to support efforts aimed at recovering public resources and addressing suspected illicit enrichment.

“We are going to auction Anita Among’s Rolls-Royce,” Gen. Muhoozi reportedly stated, signaling a firm stance in the government’s ongoing crackdown on corruption-linked assets.

The development follows recent raids on properties associated with the former Speaker, during which several luxury vehicles, including Range Rovers, were also reportedly impounded for forensic examination.

Authorities say the seizures form part of broader investigations into allegations of money laundering and unexplained wealth accumulation. The probe is being handled by multiple agencies, including the CID and the Inspectorate of Government, which has received several petitions relating to the matter.

While officials have linked the operation to ongoing inquiries, no formal charges have been announced. The investigations remain active, and the assets are expected to undergo further verification before any final legal decisions are made.

Sources indicate that the auctioning process, if approved, would be conducted under government asset recovery procedures, with proceeds potentially directed toward state revenue accounts.

Meanwhile, Anita Among has previously indicated willingness to cooperate with investigators as the probe continues, although she has not publicly commented on the latest announcement regarding the planned auction.
