Speaker Among Funded Agather’s Education, Claims Obore

Chris Obore, the Director of Communication & Public Affairs at the Parliament of Uganda, recently made a statement on social media regarding Speaker of Parliament Anita’s support for Agather Atuhairwe’s family. According to Obore, Speaker Anita assisted Agather’s father with education expenses and also paid fees for her brother, Solomon. In his post, Obore criticized Agather for allegedly spreading falsehoods about the Speaker despite her assistance to Agather’s family.

In response, Agather Atuhairwe, an activist and founder of Agora discourse, addressed the issue on the same social media platform. Agather expressed her disagreement with Obore’s claims and questioned his understanding of the situation. She highlighted that even if the Speaker had provided support, it does not exempt her from criticism, especially if there are perceived issues or discrepancies.

Agather also challenged the notion that individuals only act in their self-interest, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and accountability. She questioned the credibility of Obore’s defense of the Speaker and suggested that he may be overlooking valid concerns raised by individuals like herself.

Furthermore, Agather expressed frustration with what she perceived as unfair treatment, citing previous instances where she claims to have been unfairly targeted for speaking out against certain issues. She referenced evidence that she believes supports her claims, challenging Obore to refute them.
