Monday, 15 January 2024, will be a historic day as the Bukedea Teaching Hospital opens its doors to patients for the first time.

While touring the hospital in Bukedea Subcounty, Bukedea District, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, who is also the Hospital Director, announced that the facility is now ready to offer treatment for both outpatients and inpatients.

For normal deliveries, Speaker Among stated that mothers will receive free maternal services, while other specialized healthcare will be available at highly subsidized prices.

“Starting tomorrow, all normal deliveries will be free of charge. Our women will also receive free mama kits. The hospital administrator will provide us with a detailed bill for the mothers delivered, and we will pay the amount to the hospital account,” Among said.

During a meeting with the newly recruited healthcare professionals, Among urged them to treat the community with diligence and courtesy.

“Do your work with diligence and strive for good results. Smile at the patients and treat them with respect and humility because a warm smile is the starting point of healing,” she emphasized.

Eng. Moses Magogo, Budiope East County Member of Parliament and also one of the directors, clarified that although the hospital is a private enterprise, its purpose is to serve the local people and bridge existing healthcare gaps.

“Let us make tomorrow a historic day for this institute. You have our full support, and I am confident that we will save lives. We are here to diligently serve our voters,” Magogo told the medical staff.

The hospital will be officially commissioned at a later time, once all civil works are completed by the end of January 2024. The fully-fledged health facility boasts a well-equipped emergency unit, laboratory, X-ray, theatre, maternity ward, and other general wards.
