Hoima, Uganda — The legal dispute over the Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament seat is intensifying, with political tensions rising ahead of the court hearing challenging the victory of Hon. Asinansi Nyakato.

Nyakato, who won the seat on a PFF-affiliated ticket, is now facing a court petition filed by her closest rival, Princess Diana Mugenyi Abwooli of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who is contesting the election results.

Mugenyi’s petition alleges several electoral irregularities, including voter bribery and other malpractices during the polling process, which she claims affected the final outcome.

Meanwhile, political observers and supporters of Nyakato argue that the case could become more complicated due to shifting political dynamics at the national level.

Some supporters claim that Nyakato’s earlier political backing, allegedly linked to influential figures, may no longer offer the same level of support as before, a situation they say could affect her legal defence.

The NRM camp, on the other hand, has expressed confidence ahead of the court proceedings, with supporters saying they are optimistic that the evidence presented will overturn Nyakato’s victory.

As the matter awaits hearing, both political camps in Hoima remain on edge, with the case expected to draw significant attention in the coming weeks.
