Obongi, July 25, 2024 – During a service delivery inspection in the education sector, the Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka, and Assistant RDC (ARDC), Umuhoza Habiba Furaha, uncovered a case of ghost teachers at Obongi Town Primary School.

The investigation revealed that three teachers – Benbelas Omia (registration number III/2012/6961612), Aroma Swaibu (registration number III2014/2421), and Roman Aziz (registration number III/2024/6017) – had been on the payroll for over two years without actually teaching.

According to the RDC and ARDC, the school headteacher, Mr. Data Ashraf Abdrah, had previously reported the issue to the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Leru Andrew, through the District Education Officer (DEO). However, no action was taken despite repeated notifications.

Concerned parents and teachers expressed their frustration over the poor academic performance of the school, which they attributed partly to the ghost teachers.

RDC Hasaka and ARDC Furaha vowed to take strict action against those involved. The RDC has written a letter to the new CAO, Otim Benson Humphrey, demanding the immediate removal of the ghost teachers from the payroll and a thorough investigation into the matter.
