A tragic incident occurred on the Northern Bypass at Kisasi in Kampala, resulting in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Beatrice Bukirwa, aged 53.
Bukirwa, a resident of Kigowa II in Nakawa Division, Kampala District, fell victim to the incident, which sent shockwaves through the local community.
Reported by the Ntinda Police Station at 8:30 pm on Wednesday (April 30, 2024), the incident involved Bukirwa being fatally struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle while attempting to cross the road.
Despite the pedestrian’s failure to adhere to traffic light regulations, Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, emphasized that the incident underscores the dangers posed by reckless driving on highways.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that reckless drivers on highways present a significant risk to road users. Speeding and failure to comply with traffic regulations contribute to numerous accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
