A tragic road accident occurred on the Kabale-Ntungamo Highway, resulting in the death of at least one person and multiple injuries. The incident involved a Nissan bus owned by Horizon Bus Company, which reportedly suffered a tire burst near Ntungamo Municipality.
The bus, en route from Kisoro District to Kampala, lost control after the tire burst and subsequently overturned near Standard Secondary school in Ntungamo Municipality. Unfortunately, a female passenger lost her life in the accident, and several other passengers sustained serious injuries.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The injured passengers were promptly taken to Itojo Hospital for treatment, while the deceased’s body was transported to the same hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Efforts are ongoing to identify the survivors and gather more details about the tragic incident. Road accidents have been a growing concern in the region, with over 20,000 crashes reported in 2022 alone, according to an annual police crime report.
