(Pakwach) – Flooding caused by River Tangi bursting its banks at Tangi Junction, near Pakwach Bridge, has significantly affected travel between Arua, Gulu, and Kampala. The incident, which has caused disruptions on the Olwiyo-Pakwach road, is the second time this year that the river has flooded. The first occurred in August.
As of Wednesday, November 27, 2024, water levels remained high, and teams from the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) were closely monitoring the situation. The UNRA released a statement saying that they would begin necessary interventions once the water levels subside.
In the meantime, travelers are advised to use alternative routes to avoid the flooded areas. According to UNRA, those traveling from Kampala to West Nile can take the Paraa-Kisanja Park Junction road as an uninterrupted detour.
Motorists traveling from Gulu to West Nile are advised to use the Atiak-Adjumani route and cross the Laropi Ferry to continue to Moyo and surrounding areas. For those heading to Gulu, Lira, Kitgum, and further north, UNRA recommends using the Masindi Port ferry through Rwenkunye, located off the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The flooding continues to affect the crucial transport routes in the West Nile region, and authorities are working to ensure that alternative routes remain accessible until the situation improves.
