Agriculture minister Frank Tumwebaze and former Soroti Municipality legislator Mike Mukula have expressed their support for the MK Movement, now transformed into the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), under the leadership of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Tumwebaze, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanked the MK team for inviting him to the unveiling of PLU, describing it as a new civic organization promoting patriotism. He commended Gen. Kainerugaba for his dedication to serving the country.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, known as MK, serves as the chairperson of PLU and holds the position of senior presidential advisor on special operations.
During the launch of PLU, Mukula, who had previously opposed the “Muhoozi project,” praised Gen. Kainerugaba’s commitment to Uganda and emphasized the importance of having leaders who prioritize the country’s interests.
PLU aims to foster patriotism and nonpartisan, non-denominational efforts for Uganda’s development.
Before evolving into PLU, the MK Movement gained popularity as a socio-political group, with members advocating for Gen. Muhoozi’s potential candidacy in the 2026 elections and promoting his presidential bid as an alternative to President Yoweri Museveni.
Political observers believe that President Museveni’s acknowledgment of the MK Movement’s efforts signals a potential alignment between the movement and the ruling NRM party, paving the way for Gen. Muhoozi’s future political involvement.
