Two Kisoro NRM Candidates Petition Tanga Odoi Over Disputed Finance Secretary Election

KIsoro, Uganda – Two candidates who contested for the position of Secretary for Finance in the Kisoro District NRM elections have officially petitioned Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, challenging the validity of the recently announced results.

This follows the declaration by Kisoro District NRM Registrar, Tadeo Mujyanbere, who announced Hashakimana Joachim as the winner with 375 votes, narrowly defeating Sentoke Muto Joseph, who polled 370 votes. Mujyanbere also stated that repeating the election was not within his mandate.

In response, both Sentoke Muto Joseph and Silvernal Ndaruhutse, aspirants in the contested election, submitted separate petition letters to the party’s electoral commission, dated May 26 and May 27, 2025, respectively. Both petitioners claim the election was marred by irregularities and inconsistencies that undermined its credibility.

Sentoke Muto raised concerns about the conduct of the election, alleging that even after a repeat voting exercise in some areas, the process remained disorganized and failed to produce transparent and credible results.

He commended his supporters for their unwavering commitment and urged them to remain patient as the petition process unfolds.

Sentoke emphasized that his primary objective is to have the voting exercise repeated to fairly determine the rightful winner. He also criticized certain NRM officials at the district level, accusing them of mismanaging and disorganizing the election process.

Silvernal Ndaruhutse, the other petitioner in the race, expressed deep concern over the handling of the election results. He claimed that despite being a duly nominated candidate, the votes cast in his favor were completely disregarded during the tallying process.
