Gulu City – Uganda; Police in Gulu city are holding two security guards over alleged murder by stabbing of a 28-year-old man in the night of 28th December 2023 at around 5:40am from Bar-dege Layibi Market, Patuda Ward, Bardege Layibi Division in Gulu City West policing division.
The deceased had been identified as Komakech Moses, a resident of Pangu Village, Alero Subcounty in Nwoya district.
According to information obtained from the reporter of the incident one, Akera Solomon and other relevant sources, it’s alleged that the deceased who had mental problems went to steal watermelons but was intercepted by the two guards and after a struggle, he was stabbed in the stomach.
He died after running a few meters from where he was stabbed.
The security guards have been identified as Opwonya Denis and Okello Richard; both attached to Tebe Security Ltd. All are in detention at Lacor Police station facing charges of murder by stabbing.
The Aswa West Police spokesperson, ASP Ongom David Mudong in a press statement, explained that; the police visited the crime scene, documented it and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
“The body of the deceased was transferred to Gulu City mortuary pending postmortem,” he asserted.
A case of murder by stabbing was registered under vide SD Ref. 537/2023 of Lacor police station in Gulu city west division.
