Uganda Cancer Institute, in partnership with civil society organizations under the Uganda Cancer Society, is leading the commemoration of World Cancer Month in February.
Dr. Jackson Orem, the Executive Director of Uganda Cancer Institute, emphasized the theme for this year, “Close the Care Gap,” urging stakeholders to intensify efforts to expand care, treatment, and strengthen ongoing interventions.
During this month, two significant days are observed: World Cancer Day on February 4th and International Childhood Cancer Day on February 15th. Dr. Orem highlighted the importance of these occasions in assessing achievements, identifying gaps, and committing to further action.
Dr. Orem emphasized the global efforts to raise awareness, enhance education, and mobilize personal, collective, and governmental action to address cancer. He emphasized the goal of creating a world where preventable cancer deaths are minimized, and equitable access to life-saving treatment and care is ensured for everyone, regardless of their location or circumstances.
