Kampala Central Member of Parliament, Muhammad Nsereko, engaged in a verbal exchange with opposition leader Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP), characterizing him as a hypocrite and a liar. Nsereko indicated his intention to potentially unveil certain aspects about Bobi Wine in the near future. The remarks were made in response to Bobi Wine’s recent interview, wherein he criticized Nsereko’s involvement in collecting funds for the ailing Kawempe South MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who is presently incapacitated in Holland.
Nsereko’s comments were prompted by Bobi Wine’s assertion that Nsereko had taken it upon himself to raise funds for Ssegirinya, without proper authorization. In return, Nsereko highlighted Bobi Wine’s own experiences seeking medical treatment abroad, pointing out discrepancies in his claims of injury and recovery.
Referring to Bobi Wine, Nsereko challenged the lack of evidence regarding Ssegirinya’s purported failure to seek requisite permissions from Parliament or the Leader of the Opposition during Bobi Wine’s own medical trips overseas. He called for the presentation of any correspondence to substantiate the claim.
Bobi Wine responded to Nsereko, advising him against fundraising for Ssegirinya, and asserting that Nsereko’s actions were unsolicited and driven by personal gain.
In response, Nsereko questioned the credibility of Bobi Wine’s characterization of him as a manipulative and mendacious politician, citing instances where Bobi Wine had allegedly made inaccurate predictions about President Museveni’s tenure and potential arrests.
Nsereko emphasized his ability to seek assistance independently, without reliance on Bobi Wine or the NUP, indicating that his fundraising initiatives had been supported by voluntary contributions. He attributed Bobi Wine’s critical stance to jealousy stemming from this independent support.
