Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, expressed confidence in Uganda’s future following the launch of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a new civic organization aimed at fostering national unity, peace, and stability.
Formerly known as the MK Movement, PLU was inaugurated on February 7, 2024, in Kampala, with Gen. Muhoozi serving as its chairman, emphasizing its role in mobilizing Ugandans towards national development.
Although not present at the launch, Gen. Muhoozi conveyed his gratitude via X, formerly Twitter, acknowledging the support of millions of backers and affirming the commencement of a significant journey.
Acknowledging the role played by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) national vice chairman for the eastern region, former Soroti Municipality MP Mike Mukula, Gen. Muhoozi thanked him for officiating at the event, highlighting his contributions to the proceedings.
In a notable shift, Mukula, who had previously opposed the ‘Muhoozi project,’ praised Gen. Muhoozi during the launch, commending his dedication to Uganda and emphasizing the importance of leadership rooted in patriotism.
The MK Movement, which originated in April 2022, was described as a spontaneous movement of Ugandans rallying behind Gen. Muhoozi to honor his military service and that of his comrades, with a focus on national unity and stability.
During the unveiling of the new organization’s name and identity, Micheal Mawanda, Igara East MP on the NRM ticket and a member of PLU’s central committee, emphasized the continued engagement of the movement in mobilizing Ugandans towards the nation’s progress.
