The Umukuka III of the Bamasaba people, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, has expressed condolences to the Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangula, on the passing of his mother. This was revealed by Mr. Steven Masiga, Spokesperson of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution.

In his condolence message to the family of Mzee Wetangula Senior, the Umukuka wrote, “On behalf of the Bamasaba people and on my own behalf, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Rt. Hon. Wetangula, the Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, and all Honorable Members of the Kenyan Parliament who warmly welcomed us during our recent visit to condole with Mzee Wetangula Senior upon the loss of his dear wife, Anna Nanyama.”

The Umukuka prayed for strength for the family and thanked them for their solidarity.

The Umukuka III led a delegation to Bungoma, Kenya, which included Bamasaba Cultural Institution leaders such as the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu; the Spokesperson, Mr. Steven Masiga; the Minister for Mobilization and Public Engagements, Hon. Irene Manghali; the Minister for Disaster, Hon. Woboya; and former Minister of State for Works, Hon. Sylvester Wanjusi, among others.

The Umukuka III and his team were received at the Lwakhakha International Boundary on the Kenyan side by Kenyan security officials and safely escorted to Bungoma County, where the Speaker of the Kenyan Parliament and over 40 Members of Parliament were awaiting their arrival.

While interacting with the Speaker and the Kenyan MPs, the Umukuka thanked them for their support of many projects initiated by the Cultural Institution. He specifically thanked the Speaker for his support towards the Landslide survivors in Bududa in 2010, where over 2000 tons of assorted items were delivered when the Speaker served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Speaker assured the Umukuka of his continued support, including a contribution towards the Bamasaba Radio Station.

Mrs. Anna Nanyama passed away at the age of 91. She was the mother of the current Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, Moses Masika Wetangula. The Umukuka thanked the Speaker for the loving care he provided to his late mother.

Married to Mzee Wetangula Senior in the early 1950s, she was blessed with 15 children, including four sets of twins.

The burial is expected to take place today, and the Ugandan Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, is expected to attend.

While making some remarks at the burial ceremony, Mr. Steven Masiga, Spokesperson of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, reminded the Bamasaba people of Kenya, including Speaker Wetangula, that he speaks for all Bamasaba, whether in Uganda, Kenya, or the diaspora, as long as they are Bamasaba.
