His Highness the Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba people has encouraged the Bamasaaba community to maintain peace during the 2025/2026 campaigns.

Speaking on behalf of the cultural institution, Hon. Steven Masiga, the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, addressed thousands of Bamasaaba who had gathered at the Bus Park under the theme “Let Us Talk,” an event organized by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, IPOD, and other partners.

“As a cultural institution, we resoundingly challenge our people to shun political violence. We must use all available platforms to preach peace,” Masiga said. He thanked the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy and other funders for providing the Bamasaaba with a platform to promote peaceful campaigns and elections.

Masiga also discouraged the community from engaging in excessive political activism, where people spend every morning discussing candidates and politics.

“Let us engage in agriculture and business rather than relying on politicians,” he advised.

The Assistant Mufti Eastern Uganda, Dr. Wandega, led prayers on behalf of the Inter-Religious Council. Both the National Anthem and Lumasaba Anthem were played.
