United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Uganda to participate in the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit and the Third South Summit of the G77+China. Guterres’ visit includes attending events in Kampala and Munyonyo, where the summits are being held.

Uganda, currently chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, is hosting the NAM Summit, with Guterres scheduled to address the plenary session during the event. The Secretary-General was received at Entebbe International Airport by Uganda’s Third Deputy Prime Minister, Rukia Isanga Nakadama, alongside Ambassador Adonia Ayebare.

In addition to the NAM Summit, Guterres is expected to participate in the Third South Summit of the G77+China coalition. The G77, representing developing countries, will see Uganda take over leadership from Azerbaijan.

The 19th NAM Summit will feature a continuation of the plenary session for heads of state and government, with statements from delegations and Guterres delivering an address. The closing ceremony, open to observer countries and organizations, will include speeches by representatives of regional groups. President Museveni, as the current chair, will deliver the closing statement after the adoption of final documents.
