The Joint Chief of Staff of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Major General Leopold Kyanda, has commended the remarkable progress and high quality of work achieved by the UPDF Engineers Brigade in the modification of the passenger terminal building at Entebbe International Airport.

During a recent inspection visit, Maj Gen Kyanda expressed his admiration for the brigade’s ability to surpass the project deadline and deliver exceptional results. He attributed this success to the UPDF’s close supervision and monitoring of the construction process.

Maj Gen Kyanda emphasized the importance of utilizing the UPDF’s own engineering capabilities for government construction projects. He highlighted the brigade’s expertise and proven track record of efficiency, which surpasses that of private contractors.

He further noted that the UPDF Engineers Brigade operates with a focus on providing services to the public at a minimal cost, rather than seeking profit maximization. This approach has resulted in significant cost savings for the government compared to engaging private contractors.

The Commander of the UPDF Engineers Brigade, Brig Gen Besigye Bekunda, elaborated on the project’s technical complexity and its significance as part of a broader initiative involving 290 infrastructure projects undertaken by the brigade.
