Mubende, Uganda – The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently concluded a successful tax education outreach program in Mubende, specifically designed for women in business. The initiative brought together entrepreneurs, business owners, and taxpayers from across the district.

Isaac Aijuka, Acting Supervisor of Tax Education Outreach for the Southwestern region, explained that the program aimed to understand the specific needs of women traders to provide more effective support.

“We wanted to hear directly from the women taxpayers in Mubende about their experiences and concerns regarding tax,” Aijuka stated. “This feedback will help us tailor our support and guidance to better address their needs.”

The women entrepreneurs received training on various tax types and their importance, taxes applicable to different businesses, and URA’s enforcement measures.

Peter Allan Senkubuge, Head of the Mubende Domestic Taxes Station, expressed his gratitude to the women for their consistent tax payments, which have contributed to the station’s strong performance.

During the interactive session, participants voiced concerns regarding the complexity of tax laws, client care, and difficulties in accessing tax information.

Denis Bambiha, a Domestic Taxes Officer in Mubende, responded by highlighting URA’s revamped, sector-specific tax education programs. He also encouraged business owners to engage directly with URA rather than relying on intermediaries.

The participants expressed their appreciation for the informative session, which provided them with a clearer understanding of tax laws and regulations. “I have gained a lot of knowledge, and I am confident that I will be able to comply with tax laws and regulations,” said Fridah Katereega, Chairperson of the Mubende Business Community.

These tax outreach programs are a key component of URA’s broader strategy to promote tax compliance through increased awareness and education.
