A French-Canadian multinational cargo tracking firm, K-Polygenese SAS, has accused Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials of undermining them and endorsing their competitor during discussions with South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA).
Mr. Edgar David Musoke, head of Lincoln Logistics Ltd, a Ugandan subsidiary of K-Polygenese SAS Multinational, claimed that during a recent meeting between SSRA and URA officials, certain URA representatives criticized K-Polygenese SAS, portraying them as incompetent. This criticism reportedly stemmed from issues with South Sudan’s cargo tracking technology, which led to its suspension in 2021.
SSRA officials, led by Commissioner General Mr. Africano Mande, expressed intentions to collaborate with another firm, Invesco, to enhance cargo tracking services.
Mr. Musoke refuted URA’s allegations, asserting that K-Polygenese SAS is a leading global technology supplier. He clarified that while South Sudan temporarily suspended K-Polygenese’s contract, it was due to issues involving a local Ugandan company, Invesco, not directly with K-Polygenese.
The suspension was lifted in October 2022 by the Trade minister.
When approached for comment, URA’s public relations manager referred the inquiry to the Assistant Commissioner of Public and Corporate Affairs, who did not respond by the time of reporting.
However, a senior URA official, speaking anonymously, stated that the dispute between the two companies should not involve URA, as the agency operates its own cargo tracking system independently.
