USAID Grants $45 Million to Uganda for HIV Vaccine Study

The Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) and the Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) have been granted sh168,811,425,000b (equivalent to $45 million) to advance HIV vaccine research in Uganda. This funding will also support the testing of vaccines developed within Africa.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced this grant during the United Nations General Assembly on September 20, 2023, in New York. The grant is set to span five years and involves a consortium that includes JCRC and Makerere University Walter Reed Project.




JCRC and MUWRP leadership intend to disclose details of the grant to national partners on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Kampala. The press conference will be attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Diana Kanzira Atwine.
