Singer Vinka revealed that her song, “Bailando,” is currently being considered for potential Grammy nominations by the Recording Academy. She explained, “I have been selected for Grammy consideration, which means I am among the artists being evaluated for Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance categories. The song they are considering is ‘Bailando.'”
Vinka highlighted that the use of the Spanish word “bailando,” meaning dancing, in the song’s title contributed to its universal appeal.
She described the track as “a simple and catchy song” that has garnered appreciation on a global scale. Notably, a song with the same title by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, released in 2014, achieved the milestone of being the first Spanish language music video to surpass one billion views on YouTube.
However, Vinka faced criticism in April when singer Victor Ruz expressed his opinion about the song, suggesting that “Bailando” was inadequately written and lacked strong lyrical content. Vinka responded by stating that the song was intentionally crafted for a specific target audience, and she reaffirmed this perspective.
Vinka further noted that the critics represented a minority and emphasized that they were not the intended audience for the song.
Additionally, several other Ugandan artists, including Eddy Kenzo, GNL Zamba, Jose Chameleone, and MC Norman, are also in the running for potential 2024 Grammy nominations.
