WAKISO, Uganda – Authorities in Wakiso District have ordered the temporary closure of a private primary school following the death of a 14-year-old pupil who was found hanging inside a dormitory in what police are investigating as a suspected suicide.
The deceased, identified as John Terry Kisekka, a Primary Five pupil at Kololo Junior School, was discovered by fellow pupils on the evening of Tuesday 3rd March 2026, after they returned from evening prep.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the body was found tied with a red scarf and suspended from a roofing beam inside the dormitory. Police were immediately notified and responded to the scene, cordoning off the area before transporting the body for a postmortem examination.
As part of ongoing investigations, the school director and the dormitory matron were taken into custody to assist police in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragic development has sent shockwaves through the school community and the surrounding area, with parents and local leaders expressing grief and concern over the welfare of learners in boarding facilities.
District education officials confirmed that the school has been temporarily closed to allow for thorough investigations and to give students and staff time to recover from the trauma.
Police said inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death and any contributing factors.
