Kole, Uganda – Northern Youth MP and hopeful Kole South MP for the 2026 general elections, Hon. Okot Boniface, has urged the Ugandan government to sustain the flow of YLP funds.
Okot, renowned as a vocal advocate for Northern Ugandan Youth in parliament, called for an investigation into the unplanned collapse of the YLP program. He emphasized the need for the government to revise and maintain fund flow to ensure continuous empowerment of current youth groups under YLP.
During a recent parliamentary session, Okot firmly asserted that YLP serves as a revolving fund intended for youth empowerment. He warned that the program’s unplanned collapse would jeopardize numerous youth groups that have benefited significantly, urging its maintenance.
His advocacy for youth employment and job creation resonated deeply with many in Kole district, who watched him advocate live on TV. Furthermore, Okot garnered attention for his plea to the government to bolster support for the ICT sector, aiming to generate more opportunities for the youth. His efforts made waves on social media and various TV stations across the nation, particularly regarding mineral tax and related issues.
He emphasized the necessity for the government to develop a comprehensive phase-out strategy and stressed the importance of retaining and recapitalizing Youth Livelihood Programs.
Questioning the fate of both recovered and unrecovered funds under the YLP program, Okot pressed for transparency in the management of the country’s minerals. He argued that a transparent system could generate sufficient revenue to meet Uganda’s needs as outlined in the national budget. Additionally, he advocated for an energy mix that reduces dependency on erratic rainfall patterns and can withstand the impacts of climate change.
