The leaders of health facilities in Yumbe have received advice about the proper use of motorcycles meant to enhance healthcare services in the district. This guidance was provided during the handover of 29 new UG boss pro motorcycles, which were received from the health ministry with support from the World Bank under the Uganda COVID-19 Response and Emergency Preparedness Project (UCREP).

Abasi Mansour, a senior health educator from Yumbe, who represented the district health officer, explained that these motorcycles are intended to improve the coordination of health-related activities within the facilities. Since there are 45 health facilities in the district, efforts will be made to retrieve older motorcycles that are still in good condition from the facilities and allocate them to support the remaining ones.

Facility heads were reminded that the responsibility for the care and maintenance of these motorcycles lies with them. Rasul Drajiga, Yumbe’s senior assistant chief administrative officer, commended the Government for its support but cautioned against reckless riding and inadequate protection of the motorbikes.

Drajiga also reminded them of the Government’s 5:00 pm curfew for parking all motorcycles and vehicles, urging in-charges to comply with this rule to prevent theft and damage. He warned against misuse, emphasizing that the motorcycles should not be left unsecured while visiting girlfriends or nightclubs, as they might attract thieves.

Linus Kayiah, Yumbe district vice-chairperson, expressed gratitude to the donors and the Government for their support. He highlighted that these motorcycles would enhance transportation and coordination at the facilities, ultimately leading to improved service quality.

Amatre Pontius, in charge of Ukubani Health Centre, expressed optimism that this initiative would facilitate mobility and bring healthcare services closer to the people.
