Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu,
Greetings and congratulations on Good Friday! Wishing you all a happy Easter (amahiimbuuka). Currently, I’m chilling in Rwakyitura with Maama, and later, we’re off to Kisozi to celebrate Jesus’ victory over death and also to check out how the NRM is doing in the battle for wealth creation across Uganda.
While here, I had the pleasure of watching some great sermons on Good Friday. It was heartening to hear all the preachers talking about loving God and loving your neighbor, echoing the NRM’s stance since 1965. Back then, we even kicked out some religious leaders (Army chaplains) who were preaching divisive messages of sectarianism and chauvinism.
It’s fantastic to hear this new message of unity. We’ve long applauded the religious leaders for forming the inter-religious council in 2001, aiming to unite all faiths in the country. Keep it up and let’s stamp out sectarianism completely!
I was also delighted to hear religious leaders condemning corruption. Bravo! Corrupt individuals are like parasites, sucking the life out of our transformation efforts. But let me remind you, the NRM has been on this since the 1960s. I personally fought against corruption among chiefs, lecherous teachers, and pillaging medical staff.
That’s why we set up structures like LCs, empowering the people to keep an eye on government officials’ activities. If elected leaders become corrupt, why don’t voters hold them accountable? The religious leaders could play a role here too. And don’t get me started on land grabbing – it’s just another form of corruption happening right under our noses.
Religious leaders, why not talk about wealth creation too? It’s not right for people to remain poor without working. The NRM has a solid plan for wealth creation, and some religious leaders are already leading by example with coffee, tea, and cassava initiatives. Let’s harmonize our message and tackle property fragmentation, which is only making matters worse.
The NRM is always on the front lines, rescuing Ugandan families from poverty. That’s why we’re always banging on about home income and education for all.
We’re currently auditing our wealth creation activities in Rwakyitura and Kisozi. We’ll join you in Kampala later and give you the full scoop on our findings.
