(Kisoro) – With the Kisoro woman MP by-election fast approaching, NRM supporters are rallying behind the party’s flag bearer, Rose Kabagyeni, and receiving support from high ranking officials, including Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the party’s Vice Chairman for the Western region and the ICT Minister. Baryomunsi visited Bukimbiri County, where he addressed large crowds, urging them to vote for Kabagyeni in the upcoming election.
Baryomunsi emphasized that the only way to achieve their desires for government support and development was by electing Kabagyeni. He praised her as an experienced leader with valuable connections in government, stating, “If elected, your issues shall be solved unlike the other people in the race.” He also highlighted her affiliation with the NRM party, which he believes will make her a strong advocate for the people of Kisoro in Parliament. “She is part of the NRM family, and her voice when budgeting in parliament will easily be heard and considered,” he added.
The Minister also made it clear that he would be actively campaigning for the remainder of the election period, standing alongside fellow NRM supporters to promote Kabagyeni as a reliable and hardworking leader who will prioritize the needs of Kisoro residents.
Baryomunsi further warned voters not to be swayed by candidates outside of the NRM, describing them as lacking a solid agenda. He urged them to remain loyal to the party, saying, “You shouldn’t shy away from voting for NRM, a party you have loved and supported for many years.”
Alongside Baryomunsi, Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, also took to the campaign trail, stressing that Kabagyeni was the only true NRM candidate in the race. She condemned those pretending to represent the party, calling them “imposters” and urging voters not to waste time on them. Kyatuhaire also spoke out against the politicization of religion in the election, accusing some individuals of trying to divide the people based on religious lines. “We are not looking for a church bishop, a nun or reverend. We are in this exercise to vote for a Member of Parliament to represent everyone in the August house,” she stated. She appealed to religious leaders to avoid promoting division and instead focus on unity.
Kabagyeni herself reiterated the importance of voting for a candidate with direct access to the NRM leadership. She pointed out that, unlike her opponents, she was a member of the NRM parliamentary caucus, which allows her to influence key development decisions. “My opponents are non-caucus members who cannot even access President Museveni,” she remarked.
She also encouraged voters to turn out on election day and vote for the NRM symbol, the bus, which she believes represents development and progress for Kisoro. “On Thursday, I urge you to walk to the polling station and tick the bus. Vote for the bus to bring roads and other developmental projects in Kisoro district,” Kabagyeni said.
