Former Kawempe North MP Hon. Latif Ssebagala has clarified his political stance, emphasizing that he is an independent politician with his own views, not a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Speaking after a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, Ssebagala said, “I am not in NUP, I am an independent with an independent mind.” He added that the meeting with the president was requested by him and other former MPs to discuss key issues affecting the country.
“For a long time, people have been meeting the president in secrecy, but we decided to meet the president openly, and we are the ones who requested the photo after discussing various issues concerning our country,” Ssebagala said.
Ssebagala, who has been part of Uganda’s opposition since 1996, described the meeting as an opportunity to engage in what he calls “transitional opposition politics.” He noted, “Talking about issues concerning Uganda with the President was a great opportunity.”
The meeting comes shortly after several MPs who recently lost their seats, including Ssebagala and Yusuf Nsibambi, also met President Museveni to discuss national matters.
Ssebagala expressed gratitude to the president, saying, “We are very grateful that the president allowed us to meet him and we discussed very pertinent issues.”
