Serere, Uganda – A group of concerned residents of Serere have issued a stern warning to the current State Minister for Fisheries and Woman Member of Parliament for Serere District, Hon. Hellen Adoa. They urge her to cease involving Mr. Joseph Oriono Eyatu, a Commissioner in the Ministry of Water and Environment, in what they describe as “dirty politics.”
Speaking to the media, Martin Otai, a resident of Ojetenayang Parish in Kateta Sub-county, stated that since the NRM primary campaigns began, Minister Adoa, through her supporters, has been circulating baseless allegations against Commissioner Eyatu. “They have been accusing him of various stupid things that are completely unfounded,” Otai asserted.
According to Otai, continued attacks on Commissioner Eyatu would mark the beginning of Minister Hellen Adoa’s political downfall. “First of all, the water sources Serere is proud of are due to Eyatu’s efforts. What has she done?” he questioned, highlighting what residents perceive as Adoa’s lack of tangible achievements in comparison.
This publication has learned that several stories have been circulating in various media outlets, alleging that Commissioner Eyatu is actively campaigning against Ms. Adoa’s re-election bid in favor of her sister-in-law, Esther Acom, who is vying for the Serere Woman Member of Parliament seat.
Peter Okello, another resident, expressed their dismay at the Minister’s actions. “We are watching the Minister attacking our son,” he said, adding that they are considering banning her from campaigning in Kateta Sub-county, where Commissioner Eyatu hails from.
“We don’t see anything that Adoa has done for the last 10 years. Why should we continue voting for such a person? The time has come for another leader; leaders come and go,” Okello added, echoing a growing sentiment of dissatisfaction.
Gladys Acam, another concerned resident, emphasized the visible impact of Commissioner Eyatu’s work in Serere and Kateta, contrasting it sharply with the perceived inaction of Minister Adoa and other leaders.
“Our people are being killed and arrested by security forces on the lakes. What efforts has she put in place to save them? We shall deal with her,” Acam declared, indicating a strong resolve among the residents.
