A member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has called upon party leader Bobi Wine to take decisive action regarding the ongoing issue of abductions in Uganda. The member emphasized the importance of formally notifying all embassies in the country whenever a member of NUP is abducted, ensuring they are aware of the situation they are indirectly supporting through their funding.
Expressing concern over the continuous abductions, the member stressed the necessity for proactive measures as the current leadership shows no signs of halting these actions. NUP, being the largest opposition party in Uganda and holding significant influence in parliament, feels a responsibility to address this pressing issue.
The situation is dire, with several members of NUP vanishing without a trace, and others languishing in detention since as early as 2020. Such disappearances and detentions raise serious concerns about human rights violations and the rule of law in the country.
By advocating for international attention through formal communication with embassies, the member aims to shed light on the gravity of the situation and garner support for efforts to end these unlawful practices. This strategy seeks to hold accountable those responsible for abductions and ensure that victims receive justice and protection.
