Mbarara, Uganda – Mbarara City Football Club has confirmed the dismissal of head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa with immediate effect, following a string of disappointing results in the ongoing Uganda Premier League season.
The club stated that a decision had been reached to part ways with Mugerwa and his entire technical team as part of a broader effort to revive the team’s fortunes.
“Mbarara City can confirm that a decision has been taken to relieve Simon Peter Mugerwa of his duties as head coach,” read part of the club’s statement.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 11, via the club’s official social media platforms.
Mugerwa leaves the Ankole Lions after a difficult start to the campaign, during which the team managed only two points from six matches, drawing twice and losing four times. The poor run has left the club near the bottom of the table, prompting management to act swiftly.
This marks the second time in two seasons that Mugerwa has faced a mid-season exit, having been dismissed by Police FC before joining Mbarara City earlier this year. The club’s hierarchy is now expected to initiate a comprehensive search for a new technical team capable of steering the side back to winning ways.
