The President of Colombia, H.E. Gustavo Petro, has shared a lengthy, passionate, and revolutionary message aimed at the newly inaugurated US President, Donald Trump. This statement came in response to Trump’s social media posts that challenged and threatened the sovereignty of Colombia.
The conflict emerged after Colombia refused to grant landing rights to two US repatriation flights that were filled with immigrants being deported by the US, which Trump labeled as criminals. The 47th president of the US accused Colombia of jeopardizing the National Security and Public Safety of the United States due to this incident.
In addition, the President of the United States declared an emergency 25% hike on all imports from Colombia, also warning that this could rise to 50% within a week. Trump further threatened travel bans against Colombian government officials and their allies.
In retaliation, Gustavo stated that he doesn’t enjoy traveling to the US, describing it as dull. He highlighted the racial divisions he has observed between Black and Latino communities during his visits there.
The Colombian leader remarked that he appreciates certain historical figures from the US, but he also warned that Trump’s greed could lead to the destruction of humanity. He expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with Trump but doubted it would happen due to Trump’s view of Latinos as an inferior race.
Gustavo also asserted that while Trump may attempt an economic coup against Colombia, he is prepared to stand firm against Trump’s aggressive demeanor, having faced tougher challenges. He claimed that Trump might try to eliminate him, yet he will undoubtedly endure among his supporters. Elected as President of Colombia in 2022, Gustavo stated his disdain for white slavers and his preference to associate with advocates of freedom. He boldly challenged Trump to attempt to topple him and witness the global reaction.

I like going to the black neighbourhoods of Washington, where I saw an entire fight in the US capital between blacks and Latinos with barricades, which seemed like nonsense to me, because they should join together.

I confess that Sacco and Vanzetti, who have my blood, are memorable in the history of the USA and I follow them. They were murdered by labor leaders with the electric chair, the fascists who are within the USA as well as within my country
I don’t like your oil, Trump, you’re going to wipe out the human species because of greed. Maybe one day, over a glass of whiskey, which I accept, despite my gastritis, we can talk frankly about this, but it’s difficult because you consider me an inferior race and I’m not, nor is any Colombian.
So if you know someone who is stubborn, that’s me, period. You can try to carry out a coup with your economic strength and your arrogance, like they did with Allende. But I will die in my law, I resisted torture and I resist you. I don’t want slavers next to Colombia, we already had many and we freed ourselves. What I want next to Colombia are lovers of freedom. If you can’t accompany me, I’ll go elsewhere. Colombia is the heart of the world and you didn’t understand that, this is the land of the yellow butterflies, of the beauty of Remedios, but also of the colonels Aureliano Buendía, of which I am one, perhaps the last.
