Sgt. Cosmas Oryema, a UPDF soldier stationed at Makenke Barracks in Mbarara City, met his unfortunate demise in what authorities suspect was a heated domestic dispute with his wife. The tragic incident unfolded on a fateful Friday morning in Kizito Zone, Luweero Town Council.
Sgt. Cosmas Oryema, who found himself at the center of this unfortunate incident, was reportedly embroiled in a longstanding feud with his wife, who is currently evading law enforcement. According to Mr. Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, the soldier had purchased property in Kizito Zone, Luweero Town Council, where the family resided. Allegedly, this dispute over property had brewed for an extended period, ultimately culminating in this tragic event.
During the preliminary investigation, police detectives combed the crime scene and uncovered a collection of sharp objects, including shattered glass and broken plates. Strangely, aside from Sgt. Oryema’s lifeless body, no other individuals were present at the scene. It is strongly suspected that the wife absconded with their children following the altercation.
In the neighborhood, bewildered residents expressed their inability to comprehend the nature of the disputes that had marred the couple’s life. These conflicts seemed to revolve around matters concerning their family property in Kizito Zone.
It’s worth noting that the greater Luweero area has witnessed a disturbing surge in murder cases tied to domestic conflicts and land disputes. Shockingly, between July and August 2023, a total of 14 such cases have been recorded, painting a bleak picture of love and land wars in the region.
