The territorial police in Apac District are investigating a suspected murder by hanging. According to the police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, Achilla Emmanuel, a 12-year-old of the Karamojong tribe, a pupil of Ibuje Primary School, and a resident of Kanalobai village, Kakakwa parish, Mari Sub-County in Kotido District, died by suspected hanging.
Okema, in a statement to the media, mentioned that Achilla (now deceased) was brought by his uncle, Olila Samuel, who works as a herdsman to Odongo James. However, on November 21, 2023, a bull disappeared, and Odong alleged that Olila sold his bull. As a result, he kept threatening Olila and registered a case of theft against him. Olila was later arrested and is currently in police cells at Apac Central Police Station (CPS).
Later, Odong turned to the boy Achilla, asking him to reveal where his uncle sold the bull. On Monday, the boy took off to the neighborhood and didn’t return. On Wednesday, he was discovered hanging on a rope, dead.
A report was filed with the police, and the scene of the crime was visited, documented, and the dead body conveyed to Apac Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem as the police wait for relatives from Kotido to arrive.
Odongo James is now the prime suspect, but he is still at large. Okema advised Odongo James to report himself to the police for investigation.
