Police at Abok Police Station, Oyam district, are holding a man accused of setting ablaze one of his grass-thatch houses on 16th December evening around 6:40 pm. The incident resulted in the burning of items worth millions of shillings and caused serious injuries to his father, following a family dispute.
James Ogwang, 40 years old and a resident of Anyom C village, Ariba parish, was arrested by 7:20 pm yesterday. Reports indicate that he had domestic issues with his wife, Winny Ogwang, after she refused to allow him to sell a basin of peas they had harvested. Ogwang wanted to sell it to obtain money for playing cards and drinking alcohol.
Walter Okwonga, the Chairperson LC One of the area, mentioned that Ogwang is a well-known marijuana smoker. Before setting fire to his house, he had a quarrel with his father, Odongo Ceaser, during which he seriously injured him, accusing his father and wife of denying him the opportunity to sell the peas.
Thomas Okot, the OC of Abok Police Station, has confirmed the arrest and stated that they have already initiated an investigation into the accused suspect.
