Police Details on Kifeesi Gang Leader Sobi’s Death

Kibaale LC1, Maddu Sub-County, Gomba District – December 18, 2023

Police provided insights into the demise of Paddy Sserunjogi, also known as Sobi, the leader of the Kifeesi group. The incident occurred during an illegal land eviction in Kibaale LC1, Maddu sub-county, Gomba district.

An incident report from Kanoni Police Station revealed that on December 18, 2023, around 12:30 pm, a group of approximately 50 individuals armed with sticks, pangas, and spears attacked another group claiming ownership of the same land. The altercation resulted in the death of Sobi.

The report disclosed that Kalisa had purchased the land for sh100m but only paid 20 million in 2007. Allegedly, he acquired the land from the wrong person. Another group, identifying as the descendants of the late Paul Kibi, led by Deborah Nagadiya and Barton Kiwewa, asserted their ownership with land titles.

The initial group initiated legal proceedings, but before the matter was resolved, the second group brought individuals from Kampala Kisenyi to occupy the land. The clash unfolded when Kalisa’s group hired individuals from other areas to attack the opposing group during an assault planned at Kalisa’s son’s location.

During the confrontation, Sobi’s group found themselves overpowered. The statement mentioned that several individuals lost their lives in the attack, although only Sobi’s body was recovered with cut wounds on the leg and neck.

Gomba Police responded promptly upon being informed, documenting the scene with photographs and sketches. The search for other potential victims is ongoing, and preparations are in progress to transfer Sobi’s body to the hospital for a postmortem examination.
