The Ugandan State Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (General Duties) Henry Musasizi is championing the cause for Spain’s support in the development of Uganda’s digital infrastructure. Representing Uganda at the High-Level Ministerial Meeting in Madrid, he highlighted the potential for collaboration between the two nations in various sectors.
Spain, currently holding the Chair of the European Union, hosted the meeting, which brought together officials from the African Union and European Union. Key topics on the agenda include discussions about establishing a robust African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) to foster intracontinental trade and deliberations on building a strong African economy to generate jobs for the youthful population.
During the meeting, Minister Musasizi acknowledged Spain’s support for Uganda’s ICT sector, citing the Airborne Geophysical Survey and Geological Mapping Project in the Karamoja region as an example. The project aims to enhance geological surveys, geochemical sampling, and mineral assessment in Karamoja.
Minister Musasizi emphasized the potential for Spain’s expertise in telecommunications and ICT development to fortify the partnership with Uganda. He stressed that collaboration could lead to the exchange of best practices, capacity building, and investments in Uganda’s ICT sector, ultimately improving digital services and fostering economic growth.
Highlighting Spain’s achievements in renewable energy, Minister Musasizi identified the green industry as an area where Uganda could benefit from Spain’s experience. Spain’s advancements in solar and wind power could guide Uganda in adopting sustainable energy solutions, promoting clean technologies, and implementing environmentally friendly practices for sustainable development.
The high-level ministerial meeting, themed “Transformative Investments in Africa: Unleashing Job Creation Initiatives,” commenced on December 18 and concluded on December 19 in Madrid.
