Lugazi Police Investigate Brutal Killing of UPDF Soldier

The Police in Lugazi are investigating the murder of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier, PTE Robert Nyeba (RA/210678), who was killed on December 31, 2023. His body was discovered about 100 meters from his residence in Nammengo Kiteredde-Kasambya, Lugazi Central division, in Buikwe district.

Residents noticed the body and informed the deceased’s aunt, Perusi Logose, who revealed that Nyeba had been living alone due to a recent car crash. He was on leave from his duties as a driver for a senior army officer.

District Police commander John Lukoto and Lugazi Police officers arrived at the scene, discovering a head wound on the deceased. The suspicion is that he was fatally struck by an unknown assailant with a blunt object, leading to his death from bleeding.

It is alleged that the attackers stole all the belongings Nyeba had on him. Despite attempts to use a Police sniffer dog, the crime scene had already been tampered with, hindering investigative efforts.

In response to the incident, Lugazi residents urged increased police operations and patrols to enhance security in the area. LC1 chairperson Richard Kavuma specifically highlighted the involvement of youth in local crimes, urging the police to arrest and charge individuals engaged in criminal activities.

The deceased’s body was taken to Kawolo General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
