Muslims gathered for the final funeral prayers for the late veteran journalist, Hajji Abdul Nsereko in a solemn gathering at Kibuli Mosque on Wednesday. Tears flowed freely as mourners paid their respects to the departed journalist.
Hajji Nsereko passed away on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by his son, Muhammad Nsereko, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kampala Central.
Prince Kasim Nakibinge, the Titular of the Muslim Community, eulogized Hajji Nsereko as a leader of integrity. Nakibinge recalled Nsereko’s prominence during the 1970-80s when he served as a presenter at Radio Uganda. He praised the late journalist for his professionalism and ability to work with various governments without interruption. Hajji Nsereko also had a distinguished career at UBC as both a television and radio presenter. Additionally, he served as the first speaker of Kampala City Authority.
Prince Nakibinge commended Nsereko for his trustworthiness and peaceful coexistence with fellow Muslim leaders in Kampala. He emphasized that Nsereko’s life serves as an example to leaders, showcasing how trustworthiness can lead to a long and respected legacy.
Muhammad Nsereko expressed his contentment that his father left behind a legacy of good leadership, which he pledged to uphold. Hajji Nsereko’s emphasis on trustworthiness and setting an example for others has influenced his son’s approach to leadership.
The late Hajji Abdul Nsereko was laid to rest on Thursday at his ancestral home in Buliika-Nama, Mukono District.
