On Sunday, September 17, 2023, a man with four children surrendered himself to the Namisindwa Central Police station in Eastern Uganda. He confessed to the murder of his wife, Justine Watsemba, aged 24, alleging she had been involved in extramarital affairs.
The accused, Vicent Bwayo, aged 35, worked as a shop security guard and resided in Watoka 1 village, Butingu parish, Bumwali Sub-County in Namisindwa District. Bwayo reportedly accused his wife of infidelity with other men in their village.
Watsemba’s lifeless body was discovered without a head, lying in a pool of blood near their home in the same village.
According to the police, Bwayo and Watsemba had been married and had four children together. Eyewitnesses informed the detectives that Bwayo brutally killed Watsemba despite her pleas for her life.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson, disclosed that the suspect is currently detained at Namisindwa Central Police Station while investigations are ongoing.
Taitika stated, “We found some evidence at the crime scene. After murdering his wife, the suspect removed his blood-stained clothes and a machete, leaving them in his brother’s pit latrine.”
Initial investigations indicate that the couple had been having domestic disputes, although no serious cases had been previously reported to the police.
Taitika added, “Our investigation reveals that on September 13, 2023, the suspect brought the deceased to the local LC2 court, accusing her of infidelity, which she admitted to. The matter was resolved at that time. Unfortunately, the suspect claims that the victim continued to be unfaithful, leading to this tragic incident.”
The body parts were recovered and transported to Mbale City Mortuary, pending a postmortem examination.
The police have urged the community to remain calm as they work to gather more information to guide further actions in this case.
