A tragic incident unfolded at Kings Park Rugby Club, Kakajjo Zone in Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, as a watchman, Nekeon Buruga, 37, lost his life in a shooting incident at 23:13 pm.

The alleged suspect, Sam Ahamya, a 47-year-old lawyer/advocate residing in Buziga, Makindye Division, Kampala District, had visited the rugby club for leisure with his children earlier in the day. Despite initially leaving his pistol at the entrance in the care of a police officer, the situation took a tragic turn when he retrieved the weapon around 22:00 pm.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, during an attempt to perform a Normal Safety Precaution (NSP) with the magazine still in the pistol, Ahamya allegedly accidentally shot and fatally injured Buruga. The incident prompted the police to open a murder case.

Prompt police response followed, conducting a thorough scene investigation. The firearm involved in the incident was recovered and secured for forensic analysis by the scene of crime officers. Ahamya, now the suspect, is in custody at Kira Police Division, as authorities actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The deceased’s body has been transported to the City mortuary for a postmortem examination. Authorities are committed to unraveling the details leading up to this unfortunate event.
