Cash, Loans and Pressure: Inside the Race for Top Government Jobs as 13 Senior Officials Try to Use Backdoor Deals to Secure Key Posts

Ankole Times Investigations | Kampala — A total of 13 senior government officials are currently busy splashing millions of shillings using a backdoor approach to secure top positions in government.

Among the top positions the officials are struggling for include Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Gender, and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of ICT.

Others are senior engineers struggling to secure positions as regional managers in the Ministry of Water, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

A one-week survey by The Ankole Times, the officials are using highly well-placed teams who claim they can influence their appointments. It should also be noted that those currently in the positions are spending sleepless nights to ensure that the appointing authority gives them another contract.

This publication has decided to withhold the names of the officials but will reveal them in the next article.

Meanwhile, some of the newly elected Members of Parliament, even before they are sworn in, are likely to lose money to the same group in a bid to secure ministerial positions and commissioner posts.

Three of the newly elected MPs told The Ankole Times that they are receiving distress calls from various people asking them to prepare money so that their names can be included on appointment lists.

One of the newly elected MPs, who requested to speak on condition of anonymity, told The Ankole Times that some of his fellow newly elected MPs are already processing loans to give to this group of people for ministerial posts, while others have already acquired cars on loan.

On the other hand, banks are also busy calling the newly elected legislators, urging them to take loans at the lowest interest rates offered by their respective institutions.

This is the first edition of our investigation. In Part Two, we will reveal how the officials are attempting to secure the positions and how money is allegedly being splashed to influence the process.
