Uganda’s international midfielder, Joan Nabirye, has inked a two-year contract with Spartak Moscow, a prominent team in the Russian Women Super League.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Nabirye stated, “I am happy to be joining a team in one of the most competitive leagues. I will do my best to help Spartak Moscow win trophies at the national and international levels.”

Previously featuring for FK Minsk in Belarus, Nabirye became a free agent after her contract concluded last season. Notably, she brings a wealth of experience, having played for Vihiga Queens FC in Kenya, where she secured two Kenya Women Premier League titles and contributed to the team’s victory in the 2022 Zonal CECAFA/CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier.

Joan Nabirye also represented Uganda in the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations held in Morocco.

This move marks Nabirye as the second Ugandan player to join a Russian Women Super League side, with Fauzia Najjemba having previously signed for Dynamo Moscow.

Uganda continues to make its mark in women’s football on the global stage, with female players actively contributing to teams in the USA, Sweden, Tanzania, Italy, India, Cyprus, and Belarus.

Rumor has it that Jjunju was born with a pencil in his hand and a headline in his heart. From an early age, he displayed a peculiar fascination with headlines, often turning everyday events into front-page sensations. His first words? Not "mama" or "dada," but "breaking news."
