Maize traders in Bulenga-Nakuwadde, Wakiso district, are facing substantial losses after a fire engulfed their storage facilities. The incident, believed to be triggered by electricity wires, occurred around 4:00 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
The fire rapidly spread to five maize stores and a plastic bag manufacturing company in the area. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, confirmed that the Fire Prevention and Rescue team responded swiftly, managing to contain and extinguish the fire.
While investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the outbreak, preliminary findings indicate significant financial losses for the affected businesses, estimated to be worth millions of shillings. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or loss of life.
