Kamuli Municipality officials are delighted to report significant progress in the utilization of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The Municipality received Shs1.08 billion, with each of the ten parishes receiving Shs108,500,000 to invest in various projects.
Stanislaus Mangasa, Kamuli Town Clerk, expressed his satisfaction, noting that PWDs are taking the initiative and making substantial progress in using the allocated funds. The grants aim to boost household earnings and foster an entrepreneurial and productive mindset among the beneficiaries.
Isaac Ibanda, Kamuli Municipality Production Officer and PDM focal point officer, highlighted that people are embracing modern farming practices and effectively utilizing the support provided by field personnel and established structures.
Wycliffe Kamadhi, a 46-year-old PWD from Bukabale Zone, Northern Division, invested the funds in purchasing a crossbred cow. He emphasized the significance of demonstrating that people with disabilities can succeed in various fields. Kamadhi, involved in matooke (plantains) cultivation and raising goats and native chickens, suggested that the government consider physical ability when allocating funds.
Eva Nabirye, a 63-year-old widow, used PDM funds to acquire eight pigs, projecting a return of Shs2.4 million. Living in proximity to pork butchers and local breweries, Nabirye opted for pig farming and recounted her success, with individuals willing to pay Shs300,000 per pig.
Officials have provided guidance to extension field staff on promoting enterprise management and enhancing household incomes positively. The success stories of individuals like Kamadhi and Nabirye underscore the transformative impact of targeted financial support in empowering PWDs and fostering economic growth in Kamuli Municipality.
