There was total excitement among many market vendors in Gotojwang on Friday as Otuke East MP Hon. Julius Acon Bua constructed a two-room block pit latrine in Olilim Sub-county, Otuke district. The construction of Gotojwang Market in Olilim Sub-county cost 20 million UGX.
The pit latrine will benefit both male and female users, respectively. According to Hon. Acon during his address, this is not the only developmental activity he has initiated in Otuke district. He added that several boreholes were constructed by him using his own personal money for the good of the community.
While commissioning the latrine on Friday, Hon. Julius Acon Bua told the vendors that the latrine would help the business community selling in the Gotojwang market to improve their hygiene. He added that it would boost the standard of hygiene, which was recently a challenge for the market occupants. However, he appealed to the market vendors to keep the latrine clean.
“We don’t want mud, dust, and flies here. With a concrete surface already in place at this latrine, hygiene will improve for sure,” he stated.
He said initially, the vendor population was very low but had recently increased overwhelmingly, creating fears of possible disease outbreaks such as cholera and dysentery, among others. MP Acon added that the major challenge facing the people of Otuke district at the moment is a lack of clean water sources and insecurity/insurgency caused by the Karamojong cattle rustlers. He called for cooperation among leaders and the Wanahinciin in all the villages to curb the vice in the area.
Jasper Okello, the assistant DHO of Otuke district, commended Hon. Julius Acon Bua for the efforts he has made towards the construction of the latrine, saying that this will improve health, hygiene, and productivity among the people of Otuke. He added that Acon also played a key role in Otuke by building a private health center III called Kristina, which is helping the local population get better health services.
Meanwhile, Ismail Opio, the male councilor representing Ogor Sub-county in Otuke district council, who also doubles as the vice Chairperson LCV Otuke district, appealed to parents to prioritize educating their children as term one kicks off on Monday. Opio also called for calmness among people over the poor state of roads in their area, saying that with the 1 billion shillings given to each district, they will work on the poor roads immediately.
Otuke Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Vincent Adrisa applauded Hon. Julius Acon Bua for sacrificing his personal income to offer a costly latrine block to the people of Olilim Sub-county. He appealed to other leaders in Lango Sub-region to emulate the lifestyle of Acon and desist from the politics of hatred, propaganda, and acrimony.
Francis Otyama, chairman LC III of Olilim Sub-county, commended Hon. Julius Acon Bua for his efforts and struggling and urged him to lobby for more development for the people of Otuke. Otyama asked those aspiring in the 2026 election to step down in favor of Bua Acon and wait for another term since Acon is a visionary leader who is likely to win with a high margin in the 2026 general elections because his achievements are so many.
“I was also hoping to contest with Acon in the 2026 election, but now I have surrendered because of what Acon is doing for the people of his constituency,” Otyama narrated.
Market vendors commended Hon. Julius Acon Bua for his continuous struggling to bring development to them and expressed disgust with politicians who keep promising them but forget after being elected into political offices. The popular market, located at Gotojwang in Olilim Sub-county, is a business center point that provides Otuke residents with basic necessities and goods, including groceries, meat, and second-hand clothes. A section of happy and joyful vendors carried and lifted MP Acon while jubilating his remarkable achievements, including the construction of the 20 million UGX latrine, among others.
