Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) commemorates the International Day for Women and Girls in Science by honoring the accomplishments of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM). Through its Women in Leadership program, CCBU acknowledges and supports leading women in these fields, as stated in a news release dated Feb.13.
Catherine Gita, Director of People and Culture at CCBU, emphasized the organization’s dedication to nurturing talented women into leadership roles through training and support. She highlighted CCBU’s recognition of the vital role women play in shaping the future of STEM and its commitment to addressing gender imbalances through various initiatives.
A 2014 government report revealed disparities in the performance of girls in STEM subjects in Uganda. In response, the 2018 Gender in Education Policy aims to increase female participation in science classes and enhance the quality of STEM education. CCBU’s program aligns with these objectives, striving to bridge the gender gap and promote female representation in leadership positions, particularly in STEM-related departments.
Noteworthy women like Doreen Namuyiga, a Quality Assurance Technologist, ensure CCBU’s products adhere to rigorous standards. Similarly, Barbra Namanyi, a Raw Materials Planner, employs data analytics and supply chain principles to manage procurement and inventory effectively. Their journeys in STEM reflect a passion for problem-solving and highlight the diverse opportunities available in these fields.
Anisha Namugabo, a Quality Controller, envisions a future where every girl has equal access to opportunities in STEM. Through their achievements, women at CCBU exemplify innovation, resilience, and empowerment in STEM.
