Fatal Shooting During Escape Attempt at Jinja Magistrates Court

A shooting incident at the Jinja Magistrates Court resulted in one fatality as Muwanika Abel, also known as Abizare, attempted to escape custody. According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, Abel was shot by an officer tasked with overseeing remandees at the court premises. The incident occurred as Abel and another individual, Senoga Ashiraf, sought to avoid being transported back to prison.

Enanga revealed that the duo had been brought to court to face charges of aggravated robbery. Despite warning shots fired by officers, Abel and Ashiraf persisted in their escape attempt. Tragically, Abel sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation, while Ashiraf managed to flee the scene. A manhunt is currently underway to locate Ashiraf and bring him back into custody.




Enanga emphasized the inherent dangers of attempting to escape lawful custody, cautioning against such actions. He highlighted the escalating trend of violence and defiance directed at police officers, particularly during arrest situations. Enanga underscored the legal authority granted to officers to use firearms in preventing escapes from custody, emphasizing the potential life-threatening consequences of such incidents.
